Mise-en-scène

In the opening scene of rome the man is shown superior to the other characters as he is wearing more formal attire - a robe which goes across him as if it was a sage. The characters which stand around him all have blank expressions and stand very still giving the impression they are paying close attention to what the man has to say. Also the man who seems to hold the crowds attention is the only one who has any movement, he holds his arm across his chest showing his strong influence and power over the crowd.
The next scene starts as someone carries a gold jug across the room whilst a servant is also bringing over a tray of drinks, this suggests that the person in the bed is of high authority, wealthy and better off. The grand bed which the couple lay in also imply affluence, the dark robed figure who approaches the bed gives the audience a feeling of suspicion and reservation, once the woman finally awakes her facial expression is shocked which is suspected by the audience.
The couple enter the room quickly and with force, there raised eyebrows and tense faces illustrate that they are angry if nto dissatified by something.
